Just Who is Our Finale Judge???

RMJSS Finale Judge: Jara Settles

Jara Settles grew up on a purebred Maine-Anjou and Angus cattle operation in north-east Nebraska. She attended Butler Community College in El Dorado, Kansas. While at Butler, Jara was second high individual at both the American Royal and San Antonio while setting an all-time scoring record in oral reasons at Louisville and being recognized as a junior college All-American. Her Butler team won the American Royal, Louisville, and San Antonio. She then transferred to Kansas State University where she was a member of the Reserve National Champion team and was again recognized as a senior college All-American. She graduated from Kansas State with a degree in Animal Science and will soon be starting her final year at Washburn University School of Law in Topeka, Kansas. Jara plays an active part in her family's cattle operation and continues to focus on building a small group of wether-type ewes. She has served as a contest official at the American Royal and the AKSARBEN and has judged shows in South Dakota, Indiana, Iowa, Oklahoma, Kansas and Nebraska

Exhibitor Spotlight

The first exhibitor spotlight is Michelle Thurgood. This was Michelle's last year showing steers and she went out with a bang winning the Grand Champion Steer at the Utah State Fair. Not only did she win at the state fair but she had a great run this past year including; Grand Champion Steer Ring 2 Sweathearts Jackpot, Reserve Champion Ring 1 Sweathearts Jackpot, Reserve Champion Steer True Blue Jackpot, and Class Winner National Western Stock Show. Outside of showing steers Michelle likes to participate in competitive gymnastics, 4-H livestock judging and livestock bowls. Her favorite things include: steak, Country music, chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream, and gymnastics. Michelle is currently attending college and majoring in exercise science with a minor in chinese. Congrats Michelle on your all your showing success!
